Based on 492 reviewsHamish's Kitchen Restaurant Fish and Chips in Scarborough is widely recognized for its consistently generous portions and high-quality seafood. Many guests appreciate the value offered, noting reasonable prices for hearty servings. Long-term patrons highlight the restaurant’s ability to maintain its standards over the years, often returning for signature dishes and new menu items. While the deep-fried nature naturally leads to some greasiness, this is generally accepted as part of the traditional fish and chips experience. Overall, Hamish’s Kitchen is celebrated for its authentic flavors, reliable quality, and warm customer engagement.
Now this is what a fish and chips meal should be about. The portion size is what it should be. The fries were hand cut, fresh and very tasty. The batter on the haddock was a great portion to fish ratio, flaky but not greasy, so too was the halibut. Surprisingly we were the only ones there at the time. Sophie the owner was extremely friendly, engaging and helpful. Overall good price and service for what we got. Definitely will return.
Such a good find... The fish was light and flaky, actually had flavour. The fries are definitely hand cut. Anyone who says otherwise is a hater. It's going to have some grease, it's deep fried. If you like fish and chips, you will like this place. A definite return on this one!
Got the haddock fish with onion rings, which was delicious and a generous portion. Everything is perfectly fried, crispy yet tender and moist. You still get the greasy aftertaste though. Can't wait to try other items on their menu!
First time here by the friend’s recommendation, really satisfied with the perfect fish & chips. Still very crispy when I had it at home. It’s 2 orders cod in the picture and one serving comes with 2 pieces of cod. Fries are fresh and can tell were deep fried in clean beef dripping. Anyway will try to have it in store next time. Really enjoyed the dinner!
We've been going to Hamish for about 10 years now! (Old and new location) Each time is always a treat! We usually order our usual seafood platter (unbeatable!) each month we come to this place. Recently, he made a new recipe called a deep fried burger. sooooo good!!! Very crispy and moist! We hope to keep our monthly tradition of having the best fish and chips!
I firmly believe this is the best fish and chips you’ll get in the GTA. If you’re on the fence about visiting, I urge you to GO FOR IT!!! While I acknowledge there are some less favourable reviews, I encourage you to experience it for yourself. This is, without a doubt, the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted so far. I’ve returned for a second time, and the quality remains exceptional. The portion sizes are great, and the flavours and texture are delightful—soft and flaky just as it should be. I had to bring my mom along since it’s one of her all-time favorite meals, and she agrees wholeheartedly. It surpasses any large chain restaurant. One of the standout features of this place is the outstanding customer service. Being family-owned, the wife is an absolute treasure! She is incredibly warm and loves to chat, showing genuine care for every customer. She is part of the reason why I will continue to be a customer.
Went on Good Friday to pickup food for my wife and grandson. BIG wait! It was my grandsons first time having fish and chips and he loved it! My only problem is he is now ruined for live and will have a hard time finding a better fish and chips...... Best fish and chips as far as I am concerned
The place was practically empty with only one other table there when we got there. Simple menu, fish and chips with some Scottish fare as well. We each got the fish of course, one of us got haddock and the other halibut. The batter is amazing on the fish! Not heavy at all, very light and crispy. It also doesn't hold a ton of grease so it doesn't even feel guilty to eat it! I loved how the food came out at the perfect eating temperature, despite being made fresh. I prefer to be able to eat my food when it's placed in front of me, and not 15 minutes later when it's cooled down. Unsure if this was intentional, but kudos regardless. Seems like a nice little family run business. Highly recommend if you want super crispy, lightly battered fish!
